The poem appears to be near a lover, but in fact was written about Byrons cousin, Anne Wilmot, whom he met at a party in a mourning trim of spangled black. Byron shows a coalesce of the repulsiveness and the light He doesn’t show this by describing the dress or the way the woman acts, but by describing her strong-arm beauty as well as her intragroup beauty. In the beginning of the poem, the reader is given the image of threateningness: She walks in beauty, like the night, but then the line continues explaining that the night is invigorated and the stars are bright.
